KINGFISHER LAKES

Kingfisher Lakes

Kingfisher Lakes is a beautiful lakeside glamping site based in East Yorkshire, with accommodations ranging from tents and yurts to luxury lodges.

We have worked with Jo and the team at Kingfisher Lakes since the beginning, we were invited down to the site when it was just a vision she and the team had in 2015. Since then we have worked closely with Kingfisher to build an online presence with eye-catching branding and graphic design, and we have also captured some wonderful photography for them to use.

Holler recently carried out a redesign of our website (which they originally created in 2016) and the whole process was speedy and seamless.

I was able to contact their friendly team over the phone and in-person at their office regularly to work alongside them to get the design and functionality just right – these guys know exactly what they’re doing and have a great understanding of the industry they’re working with their customers in (tourism accommodation in our case) they just get it!

We’re very happy with our new look website and also the printed marketing Holler have done for us with the new branding (postcard flyers, vouchers, compliment slips) we’ve also been receiving great feedback from our guests!

Thank you Holler team! It’s so easy to work with you and feel confident and supported with our online presence

Web Services

We originally created Kingfisher Lakes’ first website back in 2017 when they were getting the business up and running. Since then the website was feeling outdated and needed a good spruce, to keep up with modern technologies and a facelift as they business has expanded their accommodation options.

Bespoke Design

The client wanted the new website to be easy to navigate for different audiences as their current website was now too complicated with the new tents, yurts and lodge options. The decision was to create different pathways to the accommodations to support different user journeys. We then wanted to play more into the illustrations we had used previously for the map design to tie into the friendly and warm tones of the brand for their website. Overall we wanted a more sophisticated and modern look for the website as well as keeping a calm and relaxing undertone to the overall brand.

Bespoke Development

Over the past few years Kingfisher Lakes have utilised a number of external services, some paid for, some free. When redeveloping a site, it can be tempting to bring all that code into the new build. This is sometimes a viable option, but if SaaS (Software as a Service) solutions are working for the business, i.e. they are are already configured and processes are in place to handle the data streams (orders, bookings, signups etc), then it can be more cost effective to find ways to enhance the integration of these services rather than replace them with custom (or licensed) plugins. We worked with Kingfisher Lakes to balance self hosted functionality with third party services for the optimum result.

Creative Services

Since Kingfisher Lakes was a start up company when we met them, we have been able to work alongside them to build their brand from the get go. From branding to graphic design, we have supported the look and feel of the business with consistent designs.

Branding

The branding exercise was one of the first pieces of work we did with the Kingfisher team as this would influence a lot of marketing and imagery moving forward. We wanted the logo to be timeless and easily recognisable for the business that would lend itself to work amazingly online and offline. The client wanted a simple yet unique approach to the illustration of the Kingfisher, we used a combination of different blues and a bright orange to represent the brand.

Maps

We have worked with the Kingfisher Lakes team to create onsite maps for them to use on their website. The map had to be in-keeping with the look and feel of the brand as well as clean and informative. We chose to approach the design with simple illustrations and colour coordinated iconography so that the map was very easy to understand. As well as the main map we have also worked on interior floor plans for each of the different types of accommodation so that the end user found it easy to visualise it before they booked.

Marketing Materials

Since the launch of the new website, we have worked closely with Jo at Kingfisher to create marketing materials such as compliment slips, post cards and gift vouchers to help her push sales.

Photography

Jo at Kingfisher needed some images of the lodges, yurts and tents, as well as some interior shots. On the day of the shoot the weather turned out to be the perfect English summers day, so it was decided to shoot the interiors in the afternoon and the exteriors early evening as the light softened. The site is so picturesque that it was very easy to produce a beautiful set of images that showed the true beauty of the site and the landscape that it is set in.
