The meta details on a website are snippets of information that primarily tell search engines what your website is all about.
For each page on your website you need to write a meta title and description, and have meta tags (H1-H6). These will show up on a SERP (the page a search engine shows results to your query on) and have a limited character count, so make every word count.
The meta title is the most important, as it should explain what is on the page. The description is the hook to drive visitors to your website, and the tags show the hierarchy of the content on the page.
There are also alt tags which are added to images to tell the search engine what is in the image. Search engines can’t recognise images so we need to give them that information manually.
How your website appears on SERPs is very important as users rarely go past the first page. There’s so much competition out there that you need to stand out, and you must make sure it’s easy for people to see who you are and what you do from the start.
