April promises to be a security focused month here at Holler Marketing. Not only did we have to deal with the biggest security threat known to the web industry in well over a decade, but also April marks the beginning of our ‘Website Security Check’ campaign.
OPENSSL HEARTBLEED BUG
WHAT IS IT?
As you may have seen in the global media, a serious vulnerability was discovered which made it possible for 3rd parties to access information passed between the end user and the server, even with an encrypted connection.
WHAT DID WE DO?
The news went live about 3am GMT on the 8th of April and Holler Marketing had issued a full patch and upgrade before 9am.
We have no reason to feel any of our systems were compromised, but the incident has served as a valuable reminder for us all to be aware of security issues in general.
WEBSITE SECURITY CHECK
WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?
The web is always moving forward, and site maintenance is an essential part of owning a website. We like to be at the forefront of web technologies, and so we will be upgrading our servers with new essential elements.
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?
Keeping your website secure is a joint venture between us. We recommend annual reviews of all aspects of your website – not only to ensure that it continues looking fresh, but also to ensure that the technical elements of it are up to date.
If you have any queries on the recent OpenSSL Heartbleed security threat, or would like to discuss a review of your website, please contact us on 01964 542916 or by email to [email protected]
