Why you need a video on your website

Video Stats

2018/19 has seen a huge surge in video marketing as life becomes more fast-paced and we demand instant results. Almost all the major companies, and many of the smaller ones too, use video to get their message across. Whether they want to sell a product or service, introduce their team, show you how to do something, or just talk about their business, video is the new black! The statistics speak for themselves;

  • 59% of executives would rather watch a video than read text (Wordstream)
  • 62% of people are more likely to buy a product after seeing it on a Facebook story (Marketing Land)
  • A website is 53% more likely to be shown on page 1 of Google if it has a video (Insivia)
  • Viewers retain around 95% of a message when they see it in a video compared to 10% who read it in text (Insivia)
  • Social media posts have 48% more views if they have a video (Hubspot)

It’s easy to see why more and more businesses are opting to add a video or 2 (or more!) to their website and social media posts. Below we highlight the different types of video you can have, depending on what your aim is and what platform you’re using. We recommend not making your video too long as we naturally have a short attention span; around 30 – 90 seconds is ideal, certainly no longer than 2 minutes unless you are doing a tutorial which could take much longer.

Types of marketing videos

There are different types of marketing videos, so it’s important to decide which would work best for your customers and your business.

  • Explainers
  • Tutorials
  • Webinars
  • Customer testimonials
  • Interviews
  • Product videos
  • Talking Head video
  • Aerial Videos

What they all mean

Explainer videos are the ones you’re most likely to see on the homepage of a website; they tell you all about the business, what they do, how they work, who they work with and who works there. They are a good way to tell your story in a concise and fun way, giving a general overview without going in-depth. A good explainer video will give just enough information to draw the viewer in and want to learn more.

Tutorial videos are fairly self-explanatory, they teach you how to use a product, how to achieve something, fix something or learn a new skill. These are usually a bit more planned or even scripted, to avoid missing anything out.

Webinars are live online conferences or presentations that are usually interactive. Participants get information, ask questions and get involved in discussions in real-time. Webinars are a good way to connect with new customers, demonstrate your expertise, or to promote a new product or service. You can also aim them at existing customers, for training, as an extra value add-on, or to upsell.

Customer testimonials are a great way of showing what a great job you do. If you have a client who is happy to talk on camera about the excellent service they’ve received it can be a real boost to your business profile.

Interviews are generally structured and are a good choice for people who are a little nervous about talking directly to the camera. Having a list of questions and answers can take the stress out of being filmed for some people, and they will be more relaxed and confident.

Product videos allow you to showcase your products in a very visual and easy to follow way. Sometimes a photo isn’t enough, you want to show how good a product is and entice people to buy it, and that’s where a video comes into its own. According to Hubspot, 72% of people would prefer to learn about a product by watching a video.

Talking Head videos consist of someone talking to the camera, and if not done right can be rather dull and won’t engage the viewer. Done right, however, they can be a great addition to your website. They allow you to talk directly to your customers, giving a personal feel. Remember that people buy from people, and a Talking Head video is an ideal way to show the person behind the company. We use a variety of different filming techniques to ensure your video is interesting and engaging, and won’t have people hitting the off switch.

And don’t forget the Aerial Video! This is the perfect choice for businesses who want to showcase their outdoor work, such as outdoor buildings, holiday parks and tourist attractions. We have worked on several of these for our customers and they certainly help them to promote their business.
